Welcome to the UAV development page

As of right now the UAV project is in the design phase.

Currently, the lighting system for the UAV has been prototyped. This prototype consists of PIC16F884 microcontroller, three TCL5916IN Texas Instruments LED drivers, and the LEDs being driven. The fourteen LEDs that are being driven are:

  • Three navigation lights (Port Red, Starboard Green, Aft Red)
  • Three strobe lights (one port, one starboard, one aft, all white)
  • Six landing lights (sets of three each for starboard and port, white)
  • Two rotating beacon lights (one red top, one red bottom)

  • This first video shows what the prototype of the circuit started as. To test each of the eight outputs of the LED drivers, I connected a LED to each. These 24 LEDs were driven two at a time, starting with the outmost two working in toward the center.

Sorry for the landing light glare!
I'll hopefully get some better videos with the landing lights off soon!

The is the first video of the 14 LEDs for the UAV lighting system. Although the landing lights create a lot of glare for the camera, you can see the strobe lights strobe every two seconds, and can see the rotating beacon LEDs fade in and out. The most difficult to see are the navigation lights.

This is another video a bit farther away, showing both breadboards. This may provide a bit better of a view of the lighting system.
